Writing that suggests that one occurrence, action, or event is the result of something else

A comparison of two different things are compared using like or as

The feeling or emotional state created by the words an author uses

pointing out similarities or differences b/t items or ideas to make a point about one or both

a word that is opposite or nearly opposite in meaning to another word

literary/artistic work imitating characteristic style of author/work for comic effect/ridicule

When an item you can touch stands in or represents an idea Ex: Dove for Peace; Rose for Love

vivid/figurative language that represents things descriptively; forms mental images

described according to location or things in relation to one another

the reader/audience knows more about the situation than the characters

form of humor; something is intentionally represented less strongly than facts would warrant
