Tools of Env Science Section 1

a logical statement about what will happen if the hypothesis is supported

a verbal or graphical model explanation on how a system works or is organized is a conceptual model

Good scientists are endlessly curious which drives them to observe and experiment.

a single variable being tested and a control group being used are two essential charactersitics of an experiment

Willing to recognize the results of an experiment even though it may mean that his or her hypothesis was wrong.

the group that recieves the experimental treatment

a piece of information we gather using our senses

the factor that changes in an experiment in order to test a hypothesis.

ability to see patterns where others do not or can imagine things that others cannot.

the chance that something will happen

a procedure designed to test a hypothesis under controlled conditions

the relative arrangement of the members of a statistical population

information that a scientist gathers during an experiment

the group that does NOT experience the experimental treatment

associations between two or more events

a testable idea or explanation that leads to a scientific investigation

a group of individuals or events selected to represent the population

The Experimental Method is used to indentify and answer questions

representations of objects or systems

Good scientists keep an open mind to how the world works.

one or more impportgant equations that represents the way a system or process works

This means that good scientists don’t believe everything that they are told.

the number obtained by adding data for a characteristic and dividing this sum by the number of individuals

the collection and classification of data that are in form of numbers

Good scientists are endlessly curious which drives them to observe and experiment.
