Unit 1A Review - Nature of Science

Choose the best answer: Life formed due to chemical reactions in oceans millions of years ago.

Choose the best: Plotted on the x-axis.

Choose the best answer: If given the fake medication, then patients' health will not improve.

Choose the best: One group of roaches is exposed to antibiotics and one isn't.

Information gathered as a result of your experiment.

Choose the best: Plotted on the y-axis.

Which type of microscope would allow you to view the surface details of a specimen?

Which is a factor(s) that increases the validity and reliability of an experiment?

Which is the most common type of microscope?

Different treads of tires were changed on the vehicle.

Choose the best: Are cockroaches resistant to antibiotics?

An educated guess about the outcome of an experiment.

The same test vehicle and track were used for all trials.

An explanation about an event in nature that is supported by evidence.

As a standard of comparison, last year's vehicle trials were used.

Any factor that can affect the results of an experiment.

The resulting factor of the experiment that is measured.

Any time that you can see, hear, smell, taste or touch something in the world.

Choose the best answer: The hypothesis was not supported because all the ants died quickly.

Variables in the experiment that never change from trial to trial.

Choose the best answer: I noticed that my dog whines just before a thunderstorm.

The factor in the experiment that is changed.

A special type of scientific investigation that is performed under controlled conditions.

Experiment serving as a benchmark for comparison done under the most natural conditions.

The speed of the test vehicle was measured in m/sec.

States whether the hypothesis is supported or refuted.

Choose the best answer: The plants exposed to red light had many wilted leaves.

A statement that tells what will happen under certain conditions.

Choose the best answer: Fifteen percent of the test subjects reacted within the predicted time.

Choose the best answer: An object at rest remains at rest unless acted upon by an outside force
