POB2 Lecture 16- 17 Review

Northern Coniferous Forests need sufficent moisture to support the growth of large trees

Oceanic Biomes (Which is false)

River Continuum Concept : move down a river, less light penetrates the water and more coarse particulate organic matter

Deserts are variable in

Which of the following is true in regards to seasonal turnover in lakes?

The intertidal and the diuretic zones are zonations described in ocean biomes

The pelagic zone is made of

Both Marine and Freshwater zonation have an aphotic and photic zone

In which biome are you likely to find permafrost and plants with small leaves and short root systems?

The Bethnic Zone is made up of

Rivers are the most productive ecosystems on Earth

This is the area that stretches from the high-water mark to the shore, and where sunlight penetrates through

Streams are "Earth's Kidneys!"

Which is false about Temperate Grasslands

Due to constant rainfall and the warm environment, decomposition occurs really quickly in which biome

What is/are a type(s) of suspension fears

Coral reefs expand most of the ocean biome

Phytoplanton concentrations are contolled by aphotic nutrient availabilty and are at their lowest where upwelling occurs

In desert plants, the stem is mostly used for water storage

Aquatic Biomes Can be Categorized by

The Density and Salinity of Oceans have a direct relationship

The Benthic zone is capable of supporting organismal Life

Ponds are lotic freshwater biomes

Oceans greatly effect the biosphere by

Phytoplanton are responsible for 1/2 of the oceanic photosynthesis activity

Rainfall in Deserts are predictable and nonvariable

Photosynthesis occurs in the Aphotic zone

The aphotic zone is solely in Lake zonation

Where do tropical forests occur

Overfishing is the most major threat for which biome?

The plants found in wetlands are adapted to dry saturated soils

Estuaries are

Temporate and tropical oceans

Global Air Circulation contribute to where certain biomes occur where they are

All are true about Coral Reefs except

Ecology is the study of

Water is most dense at

Rainfall is relatively constant in in Temperate broadleaf forests

Which biome would you find 30 Degrees north and south of the equator

Threats to streams and rivers

Characterized by their spongy peat, these nutrient-poor habitats contain many carnivorous plants.

All are conditions of a river except

Lentic Freshwater is chategorized as moving/flowing biomes

Tropical Forests alternate in cold and warm temperatures year round

What would happen if the Earth was no longer tilted on its axis?

Desert Biomes are due to

Coral reefs are not that important to the environment

Ocean acidificaiton can lead to

The _____ support drifting organisms, like planton, while the _____,support organims that can survive extreme cold temp

All are true about Ocean acidification EXCEPT
