Answers

1
How are the graphs below different?
Figure 1 and Figure 2 are of different data
The increments for sales go up by less
The line in Figure 2 is flatter, making it look less dramatic
2
What could be changed on this graph to make it misleading?
The scale
The colors could be changed
The title
The order of types of move could be changed
3
What does a squiggly line on the side of a graph mean?
A jump in the scale on the side of the graph
A mistake somebody made
It just makes the graph look cool
4
How are the graphs below different?
These graphs aren't showing the same data
The scale in Graph 2 goes up in greater increments
The scale in Graph 1 goes up in greater increments
5
How could we make this graph look different?
Change the y-axis increments
All of the above
Change the colors
Put the data into a pie chart
6
How was this graph manipulated to make it look like a really bad situation?
The title is misleading
The data doesn't go year by year; it skips around
The last set of data is colored differently
All of the above
7
What is misleading about the first graph below?
The colors don't match the food
The scale makes it look like hot dogs are much more popular
The food isn't in alphabetical order
8
Are these graphs showing the same data?
Yes
No
9
Which graph do you think shows the data set more clearly?
The Pie Chart because it is easy to see all of the colors
Bar Graph b/c it's easier to see the amount of each color
The Pie Chart because it looks nicer
Bar Graph because it starts at zero
10
Do you think that a different type of graph would show this data more accurately?
No
Yes
11
What was this graph done to make it misleading?
Started the y-axis at 80
Made all of the colors the same
Didn't include a scale
Put a break in the y-axis
12
What is wrong with this graph?
The scale is wrong
The title is misleading
The data isn't in alphabetical order
The pictures aren't scaled properly
13
How could you present the data below so that it would be misleading?
Keep it the same
In a line graph where the scale increments are really small
In a bar graph where the scale is really small
All of the above
14
Why is this graph misleading?
The 3D effect makes it hard to read
The y-axis scale only goes up in small increments
The scale doesn't start at zero
All of the above
15
What is misleading about this graph?
The title
The scale
