WL Quiz 2025

World languages have a national, standardized test that students must pass to receive course credit.

Most of the WL programs in the U.S. base their language standards on ACTFL guidelines.

Level 1 classes in high school teach generally the same content as 7th and 8th grade world language.

ACTFL Standards are grouped into the 5Cs: Cultures, Communication, Connections, Communities and Comparisons

In Middle and High school, WL classes are typically offered as electives, not as required classes.

Middle and High school WL teachers could be asked to cover for classes they are not qualified to teach.

Beginning level world language classes will have no native or heritage speakers since they will have a different class.

ACTFL recommends that teachers use the target language at least 50% of the time during the WL class.

An elementary world language teacher may have to teach six different classes every day.

World Languages teachers do not have have extra duties, such as car and bus supervision.
