COMP1 Systems Architecture KO Quiz

Carries out mathematical and logical operations including AND, OR and NOT, and binary shifts.

Cache memory operaters much faster than main memory.

Coordinates all of the CPU's actions in the fetch-decode-execute cycle.

Very fast memory in the CPU. It stores regularly used data so that the CPU can access it quickly.

Holds the memory address of the next instruction to be processed.

Executes instructions stored in memory by repeatedly carrying out the fetch-decode cycle.

Holds data or a program instruction when it is fetched from memory or data that is waiting to be written to memory.

Determines the number of fetch-execute cycles per second.

A register in which results of operations carried out in the CPU are stored.

3.7 GHz will cycle at 3.7 million times per second.

MDR holds the address of the current instruction or piece of data to be fetched or stored.

Every CPU instructions is fetched from memory.
