Earth Science Module 4 Test Review

Operational geology involves the history of geology.

What property of earth minimizes the possibility of collisions with asteroids?

James Hutton introduced the idea of uniformitarianism to geology.

A resource manager who is concerned with sustainable yields works with _______.

This region is made entirely of dense, hot, plastic-like solid rock.

The asthenosphere is made up of the crust and the upper portion of the mantle.

Gravity & magnetic sensors can help define the shape of structures deep in the earth's interior to its core.

The old-earth view is also called the deep-time viewpoint.

The core has both a solid & liquid region.

Most modern geologists are uniformitarians.

The fact that earth is located in a space between the arms of the galaxy makes it beneficial for life.

Both resources being scarce and supply & demand affect the value of natural resources.

Secular geologists currently believe the age of the earth is 3 billion years old.

The earth's orbit is best described as circular.

What property of Earth dissolves nutrients that living things need & moderate earth's climate.

All scientists believe that the world operates in regular patterns.

The earth's core is denser than the earth's mantle.

What property of earth evens out seasonal surface temperatures?

The earth's crust is made up of large pieces called tectonic plates.

The Moho marks the bottom of the lithosphere.

Which planet's gravity is most responsible for keeping asteroids away from the earth?

A forest is considered to be what kind of resource?

What aids to life are the result of the earth orbiting within the sun's habitability zone?

Geology involves both observing the earth & trying to make sense of its history.

The earth's core makes up most of the earth's volume.

The plate tectonics theory began as a secular geologic idea.

What property of earth protects from radiation from supernovas & the effects of black holes.

What property of earth contains oxygen & shields from meteors?

Some seismic waves cannot penetrate which layer of the earth?

What property of earth provides proper light & heat for life?

All scientists believe the earth is regular & predictable.

Earth's seasons are mainly caused by what factor?

Uniformitarianism is the assumption that current natural processes also shaped the earth in the past at the same rate.

Oil is considered to be what kind of resource?

The earth's core is made up mostly of what material?

According to a secular view of the earth, its solar system, & the universe, our planet is quite ordinary.

Why do most modern geologists not want to be described as uniformitarian?

Hydroelectric power is considered to be what kind of resource?

What property of earth creates a gravitational strength that is just right for life?

Christian geologists shouldn't make use of the principle of uniformity.

Besides providing safety for life, why is the earth's location in the Milky Way galaxy ideal for God's image-bearers?

What property of earth deflects dangerous radiation particles from the sun?

Most scientists today believe the earth is about 7000 years old.

Earth is the only planet in the solar system known to possess water in order to support life.

The earth's crust is the thinnest layer of the earth.

Compared to other planets in the solar system w/ dense atmospheres, only the earth's atmosphere is transparent.

What is the best way that geologists collect data to model the earth's interior?
