Big Idea 1 & 3 Vocabulary

A mistake in an algorithm or program that causes it to behave unexpectedly or return the incorrect value.

Collections of items in programming. They allow you to store multiple values under one variable name

A mistake in a program that happens only when the program is actually run.

A technique that helps an algorithm find a good enough solution in a hard problem.

Sets a variable to a value or a mathematical expression.

How well an algorithm uses time and memory/space resources, CPU and RAM.

A smaller portion of a larger string extracted based on its starting and ending positions within that string.

Code statements or a sequence of instructions to be executed by a computer to perform a task- AKA software or an app.

Lets us repeat code a fixed number of times.

Lets us repeat code as long as something is true.

Reusable blocks of code that perform specific tasks when called. They help organize code for readability and efficiency

Data sent to a computer for processing by a program and can be tactile, audible, visual, or text

The process of creating a model or representation of a real-world system or phenomenon on a computer.

A problem that is so logically difficult, we can’t ever create an algorithm that would be able to answer for all inputs

An algorithm that searches a sorted list for a value by repeatedly splitting the list in half.

A sequence of characters that can be stored in a variable or list.

A Boolean condition to determine which of two paths are taken in an algorithm or program.

A problem in which an algorithm can be constructed to answer 'yes' or 'no' for all inputs

The different categories or classifications of data that can be stored and manipulated in a computer program.

Written materials that provide information about how to use or understand a software application, system, or code.

A mistake in typed code that violates the rules of the programming language

Control structure that lets us run either one section of code or another depending on a test.

Error that results when the number of bits is not enough to represent the number

An algorithm that iterates through each item in a list until it finds the target value.

In a list, the number or position of an element.

A collection of built-in procedures in a language that are useful in creating programs.

A memory location that can hold different values in your program.

Combining two or more strings together to create a new string.

General representation of something- it extracts common features from specific examples in order to generalize concepts

The repetition of steps in an algorithm or program for a certain amount of times or until a certain condition is met.

The sequential execution of steps in an algorithm or code in a program (like steps in a recipe)

Data sent back from the program to the device and can be tactile, audible, visual, or text.
