Earth Science - Chapter 5

Many creationary scientists believe that there was a single ice age sometime after the flood

The Flood described in the book of Genesis ____

molten rock

Geologically, the term stratum refers to

The most significant physical event in the earth's history other than creation

Most secular and young-earth geologists accept the plate tectonic theory, but disagree on

How long did Noah and his family spend inside the Ark?

If you were a geologist interested in studying the earth's most recently formed crust, where would you go?

Occurs when one tectonic plate slides beneath another, often forming a trench

"from nothing"

Subduction is a particular type of radiometric dating

The earliest human records date back to about _______ years ago

Noah's annual calendar consisted of twelve 30 day months

"year of the earth"

The mid ocean-ridges are locations for tectonic plate subduction

Which of the following features that exist today do secular scientists believe formed first?

Giant moving sections of the earth's crust are called

Geosynclines are __________

theoretical supercontinent

Which of these has been used to hypothesize which continents were at one time joined

Sea-floor spreading is thought to be driven by the movement of

Which or the following is necessary for a glacial period to begin?

Geologists estimate an absolute age for a rock by using

Radiometric dating gives ancient ages for rocks that are known to have been formed recently

Tectonic plates ________

Catastrophic plate tectonics

The study of the earth's bedrock, earthquakes, volcanoes, mountains and their forces

Methuselah died in the same year the Flood began

Floodwaters had to cover the highest hills by more than 15 cubits so the Ark wouldn't hit bottom during the Flood

The wooly mammoths that died in the far north were probably buried rapidly in vast dust storms

Secular geologists believe Pangaea was

Scientists believe that moving plates of the earth's crust are supported by geologic columns

"year of the Lord"

Sea-Floor spreading occurs at mid-ocean ridges

Which level of a diluvial geologic column would you find the greatest number/variety of fossils

Which book of the Bible contains the most references to cold weather, snow, and ice?

Scientists who study layers of rocks and their relationships are working in a field called

theoretical global sea

According to most secular geologists, which of these was caused by a collision?

About how many kinds of animals were likely on the Ark during the biblical Flood?

Creationary scientist who described how a single ice age could have occurred after the Flood.

Two types of tectonic plates

We know for certain that it took the Atlantic Ocean about 180 million years to form

Radiometric dating methods do not include the

Creationists explanation for what caused the extinction of wooly Mammoths includes all except

Species that we see today are the same species that Noah released form the Ark

Runaway subduction is a feature of John Baumgardner's catastrophic plate tectonics theory

Alfred Wegener was a german meteorologist and geophysicist who proposed the

Which of the following views does the framework hypothesis of creation support?

The order of events in the Genesis Creation account is __ the order secular scientists believe things have evolved
