1
Ebbinghaus' use of nonsense syllables to study memory led to what discovery?
info automatically processed is rarely forgotten
sensory memory capacity is essentially unlimited
what is learned in a mood is most easily retrieved in the same mood
amount remembered depends on time spent learning
2
What is long-term potentiation?
increased efficiency of synaptic transmission
old memories disrupt new memories
recent memories disrupt old memories
increased ability to recall events from long ago
3
What did Ebbinghaus find when researching memory?
sensory memory capacity is essentially unlimited
syllables that are meaningful were recalled the best
most rapid memory loss occurs shortly after learning
iconic memory fades more rapidly than echoic memory
4
Memory of your old password may block recall of your new password. What does this illustrate?
source amnesia
retroactive interference
misinformation effect
proactive interference

Which best describes many current researchers' position on memory repression?
repression rarely occurs as it is difficult to forget emotional experiences
memories protect our self-concept & minimize anxiety
activity of the hippocampus leads to repression
only implicit memories are repressed into unconsciousness
