Page 40 - What happens below the earth's surface to form geysers?

Magma creates hot water and steam. Steam is forced upward.

Page 35 - What is an extinct volcano?

A volcano that has not erupted for 10,000 years

Page 38 - What is a hotspot?

A place where volcanoes happen not along a plate boundary

Page 34 - What goes on above Earth's surface to form a volcano?

A crack in the surface and volcano gets taller

Page 37 - How did the Ring of Fire get its name?

It forms a ring along the boundaries of the Pacific Plate, It is one of the most volcanically active areas on Earth

Pages 32 & 33 - What are ways erupting volcanoes can change Earth's surface?

Add new land, Bring minerals from deep inside the earth to the surface, Release rivers of lava that can burn everything in the path

Page 34 - What goes on beneath Earth's surface to form a volcano?

Tremendous pressure and heat force magma upward

Page 35 - What is an active volcano?

Has erupted in the past 10,000 years and is likely to erupt

Page 39 - How does an undersea volcano become a chain of islands?

Underwater volcano gradually rises above the ocean's surface

Page 36 - What is subduction?

When an oceanic plate goes under a lighter continental plate

Answers

1
Page 40 - What happens below the earth's surface to form geysers?
Steam bubbles form and pop
Hot water escapes through a crack in the crust
Hot spring water enters the mantle and turns lava into steam
Magma creates hot water and steam. Steam is forced upward.
2
Page 36 - Why do volcanoes occur at subduction zones?
Tectonic plate collisions send magma into the sky
The subducting plate melts
The fast collision of tectonic plates forces an eruption
Volcanoes don't happen at subduction zones
3
Page 33 - How did the eruption of Tambora affect the weather?
Ash in the air blocked the sun
It did not have an effect on the weather
Caused an ice age
Made the summer extra hot
4
Page 35 - What is an extinct volcano?
A fossilized volcano
A volcano that has not erupted for 10,000 years
A volcano species that has died out
A volcano that has never erupted
5
Page 38 - What is a hotspot?
A place where volcanoes happen not along a plate boundary
A place where lava gathers
An area with a really hot climate due to increased volcanoes
The hot air above a volcano
6
Page 34 - What goes on above Earth's surface to form a volcano?
A crack in the surface and volcano gets taller
Lava rain
A giant lava bubble forms and pops
A crack in the surface and hard lava covers the crack
7
Page 37 - How did the Ring of Fire get its name?
The ring around a volcano burns in a perfect circle
It forms a ring along the boundaries of the Pacific Plate
It is one of the most volcanically active areas on Earth
It's always on fire
8
Pages 32 & 33 - What are ways erupting volcanoes can change Earth's surface?
Add new land
Spread new plant life
Bring minerals from deep inside the earth to the surface
Release rivers of lava that can burn everything in the path
9
Page 34 - What goes on beneath Earth's surface to form a volcano?
A crack in the core
Tremendous pressure and heat force magma upward
It causes epicenters to form
There is an explosion beneath the surface of the Earth
10
Page 35 - What is an active volcano?
It likes to work out
Has erupted in the past 10,000 years and is likely to erupt
Constantly erupts
Is currently erupting
11
Page 39 - How does an undersea volcano become a chain of islands?
Fish swarm around volcanoes and poop out enough sand
During eruptions a part of crust breaks off and floats away
Underwater volcano gradually rises above the ocean's surface
12
Page 38 - In what layer of the Earth do hotspots form?
The mantle
The core
The continental crust
The oceanic crust
13
Page 36 - What is subduction?
A submarine full of ducks
When two tectonic plates hit each other
When two tectonic plates separate
When an oceanic plate goes under a lighter continental plate
14
Page 35 - What is a dormant volcano?
Isn't erupting currently
Is hibernating
Hasn't erupted in a long time
Hasn't erupted in 10,00 years
