Chapter 10 and 11

A branch of biology that deals with the science of classification

What do evolutionists call who they believe are the first humans?

A group of organisms with similar characteristics that are capable of interbreeding to produce fertile offspring

What do evolutionists refer to modern man as?

The days in GEn 1 & 2 are "God days", not literal days

The genus-species name of an organism?

Heritable new traits that make an organism more fit and is passed down to the next generation is called what?

Who had the idea that if famine or disease did not exist, overpopulation would lead to worldwide starvation?

An ancestral organism whose offspring diverge into two species or more

Looking at life on the basis of created kinds

The process of 2 dissimilar species evolving the same derived trait

Who is known for his work in comparative anatomy between birds and humans?

Most mutations are beneficial

Who was the deist who studied geology and concluded that earth was old, not young?

The theory used to explain the lack of transitional forms, suggesting that evolution can happen quickly in short bursts

What bad thing has evolution led to?

A structure thought to be a remnant having lost it's original function

The kind of change that results from a population spreading out into new environments

Observable processes on earth happen at the same rate now that they did in the past

Check the red one

God initiated the big bang, the universe is a cosmic temple

What is the name of the system that assigns a species a genus and species name in Latin? (ex: Felis catus)

A trait that arises within a clade that is shared by all future member of that clade

The major obstacle in worldviews trying to mix evolutionist and creationist views is what?

Fossils

The estimation for when two species diverged from a common ancestor

Margaret Sanger believed in racism and founded the planned parenthood movement

The formation of new varieties of related organisms

What is the name of the eight classification groups?

Comparing the similarity in physical structure between different types of organisms

The science of classifying organisms

A group of organisms that God created as distinct from other groups of organisms

The idea that all living things come from a common ancestor

Biological Evolution

Modified classical Darwinism by adding mutations as the engine of change

Which of the following is a theory original to Darwin?

A chart similar to a family tree used to observe how different creatures are related evolutionarily

Which IS NOT a domain of life?

Which islands and what kind of creature led Darwin to his beliefs about evolutionary change?

Which Botanist inspired Darwin to go about the Beagle?

Chemical Evolution

The theory that life did not form on earth but came from elsewhere?

Adaptation in response to competition for resources

Periods of evolutionary history in rock layers

Physical features with the same anatomical structures, thought to show which organisms share a common ancestor

Gen 1:2 refers to an old earth ruled by Lucifer until Lucifer rebelled and God destroyed his world missing from Genesis

Relative dating

What are the 2 branches of systematics?

Artificial Selection

What is the correct order of the taxons?

A very remote past in earth's history

What was the name of the experiment that proved life could not emerge from nothing and disproved spontaneous generation?

Index fossils

What do dots on the clade represent?

Evolution claims the changes of alleles are due to mutations

Each Genesis day is a long period of time, God-initiated big bang, God intervened to directly create new species

Which is the theory that states: Organisms can pass traits to their offspring that they had acquired during their life?

It is possible for DNA to gain more information

Molecular Evolution

The possibility of life arising from non-life

Genesis is creative literature rather than history

Anyhting preventing two species from reproducing

Concordism

Radiometric dating

Eukarya includes animalia, plantae, fungi, and protozoa

Fossils that are meant to show the phases of change of diverging organisms, but none have been found

Increasing lack of fitness caused by an increasing number of mutations in a population

The idea that organisms do not change over time
