ISMN Exam 3

The Internet is an example of a

Advantages: high bandwidth; relatively inexpensive

Lower frequency = ___ data transmission

Each computer on the internet has an assigned address, calledthe ___ that distinguishes it from all other computers

Which is the most common LAN protocol for devices in organizations to communicate?

Access where cable and DSL are not available

a field in one table that uniquely identifies a row or record of another table (CUSTOMER ID)

Most popular query language, allows ppl 2 perform complicated searches N databases by using simpler statements ex:SELECT

Which satellite is closest to earth?

Which satellite is in the middle range to earth?

___ Bandwidth = faster movie downloads

Disadvantages: expensive; must have unobscured line of sight; signals experience propagation delay; must use encryption

___ examples: bluetooth, ultra-sideband, near-field communication (NFC)

4 comptrs & devices 2 communicate, they have a set of rules & procedures; dictate how 2 format ,transfer & receive data

popular wi-fi encryption for wireless networks

Auburn has 2 pipelines to ___ & ___

refers to a real-time, wireless connection between a mobile device and other computer environments

____ examples: Wi-fi (Wireless Fidelity)

Two approaches that organizations use for implementing data governance are:

a changing definition for a minimum [fast] speed of data transmission

Order of networks smallest to largest

Organizations typically have multiple interconnected ___ and ___ to form an enterprise network

What is the fastest wireline?

Advantages: high bandwidth; large coverage area

Fiber sends ___ bolts of light energy

app used for financial transactions; Allows users to store credit card info

the distance from one point of a wave to the same point on an adjacent wave

Purpose of __ is to make data more accessible and understandable

why do humans need Data Visualization?

System where any obj(natural/manmade)has unique identity(IP Address)& able 2 send&receive info over a ntwrk w/o humans

__ format data in an easy-2-understand way so mngrs/bsnss professionals can access & analyze according to their needs

form of advertising thru mobile phones and other mobiledevices; ex: interstitials, banners, text ads

precise descriptions of policies, procedures, or principles in any organization that stores & uses data to generate info

Disadvantages: must have unobscured line of sight; susceptible to environmental interference

Approach 2 managing info across an entire org. Set of business processes/policies that ensure data is handled properly

Still used in the U.S. where broadband is not available

expensive and usually only placed in new hosing development

Data that has been organized so that it has value and meaning to therecipient

The process of designing a database by organizing data entities to be used and identifying the relationships among them.

unauthorized access N2 wireless ntwrk;(evil twin attack)device detects wireless ntwrk&provides info 2 spoof legit ntwrk

IP addresses are difficult to remember so _______ are used; ex: ".com" ".net" ".edu"

Which satellite is farthest from earth?

things,events,activities,transactions,figures,numbers,etc. that're recorded,classified&stored but arn't orgnzd w meaning

Co's have abundance of data available 2 help them understand&solve busi prob's&identify business trends faster&acccurate

A central repository that stores all of an organization’s data, regardless of their source or format.

Collection of data that is so large & complex that it's difficult 2manage using traditional database management systems

machine generated data is generated in much larger quantities than traditional data [i.e. vehicle sensors]

What is the Internet backbone?

A repository of historical data that are organized by subject to support decision makers in the organization.

very convenient and will increase the use of broadband wireless

Establishes how data is formatted&sent so other devices can receive, recognize(read)& process the info;used N orgs&homes

____ refers to the transmission capacity (how much and how fast data travels) of a network

acquiring, organizing, storing, accessing, analyzing, and interpreting data

Higher frequency = ___ data transmission

IT Dept will pull data from databases, data warehouses, data marts & create:

Mngrs/business prfssnls then apply their experience &expertise 2 use this info to address a business prob--producing __

a field of a record that uniquely identifies that record so it can be retrieved (ORDER NUMBER)

Low-cost, scaled-down version of data warehouse designed 4 end-user needs in a strategic business unit(SBU)or department

Disadvantages: creates electrical interference problems; susceptible to snooping unless encrypted

Common in Org's/Businesses, as well as apartments/ houses/ dorms. EX: AUBURN.EDU

untraditional data formats/structure [sensor data, customerfeedback, images, audio streams, loco data, satellite image]

System that connects cmptrs& other devices(ex: printers)w communications media so data&info can B transmitted among them

ads briefly cover a device’s screen; make it hard to get out of, ex: small faintly shown X

telecommunications in which data and information is transmitted by electromagnetic waves

allows multiple features to be condensed into 1. ex: smartphone has camera, phone, compass, calculator, etc

how many waves are produced from the source per second

rate at which data flows into an organization [i.e. internet transactions]

____ Example: Cellular radio

ETL stands for:

the primary protocol of the internet

connect 2+ devices in a limited region, usually w/in same building, so every device on the network can communicate.

uses physical wires or cables to transmit data and information

combines records from two or more tables in a database to obtain information that is located in different tables

Advantages: high bandwidth; signals pass through walls; inexpensive and easy to install

The primary network connections and telecommunications lines that link internet nodes

access over ur cable tv coaxial cable. can have degraded performance if many of ur neighbors access the internet @ once

broadband access through telephone companies
