Is this narrative or descriptive?

If done well, will engage the reader more

Still needs structural features to create interest/show skill/hits the mark scheme

Focuses very clearly on one skill therefore it should be easier to show the relevant skills

Easier and quicker to use structural features - eg a flashback, withholding information, a strong voice etc

Avoids the trap of writing a bad narrative ie. just a list of events without any development

If you don’t have narrative, how will you interest the reader?

Less reliant on one skill – you have to create character as well as place

Requires high level of skill in use of descriptive techniques

There is a real danger of writing just a list of actions, rather than using description to show skill
