BIOINFORMATICS

brain of the computer

Interconnected group of computers that share information and resources

Combination of hardware, software, infrastructure, and traines personnel

PRE-ANALYSIS: Instrument work list

PRE-ANALYSIS: Barcoded Collection Labels and Aliquot Labels

COMPUTER HARDWARE is Composed of the CPU, Memory, & Storage

developer of innovative applications like online hospital services

Result Validation and manual or automatic release

Includes the use of printed labels or “Smart” Labels (Ex. QR Code Labels)

designed for Laboratory personnel

information can flow in both the analyzer and the LIS

Hardware, software, and connectivity designed to perform the data management function

Patient Registration

paperless patient’s chart that summarizes the clinical history with diagnostic test results

Secondary or back-up memory

A type of client that does not require processing from servers

Critical Step in any workflow

Phlebotomy Draw List

Set of programs responsible for the management and coordination of activities and sharing of resources

Collection of data stored in a two-dimensional database

Online releasing, faster and secure

results are used for research through using databases and data analysis tools to uncover hidden patterns

Workload statistics

A type of client that is low processing power and heavily relies on server power

needs manual input or order before giving results or information to the LIS

includes creating tables and establishing relationships between those tables according to rules

secure the privacy of data in a health care facility

How information is stored in biological systems with focus on DNA, RNA, and protein sequences

Transmission capacity of a computer network or other telecommunication system

Results inquiry

designed for doctors and nurses

Can be of two types: normalization and Structured Query Language

protocols that define how devices communicate with each other

designed for doctors to check the patient’s medical history

electronic device for storing and processing data

application development for Hospitals, clinics, and educational institutions in the Philippines

prevents hackers to hack the information data

covers broader area

Can be unidirectional or bidirectional analyzer communication

covers small geographic area

Collection of data identified by specific name and grouped into purpose

Quality Control

Device that provides a service to another computer program and its user

widely-used laboratory information systems (LIS) in the country

type of programming language that used to manage data stored in relational databases

Specimen Tracking/ Racking System

PRE-ANALYSIS: Test Ordering

A Traditional client- server relationship

Ad hoc report writer

Manual Results Entry

set of programs used in a hospital setting

selects test electronically and is being sent to the LIS

Result Validation and manual or automatic release

ANALYSIS: Customized Requisitions

Corrected report

POSITIVE PATIENT AND SPECIMEN IDENTIFICATION & BARCODING is the “SECOND STEP”

transportation medium of information throughout the internet

Test Ordering

Very important to ensure privacy of the patient’s information

Private network that uses the same protocols with the internet

Common type of networking standards; usually wired connections

Turnaround time (TAT) reports

Building blocks of information system
