Scientific Method Terms

A decision we make based on observable facts.

Scientists look for relationships and patterns in the data.

Understandings, translations, and opinions make up these.

The variable that we measure - or shows the result of the change.  Responding variable.

A structured format of activities designed to test a hypothesis.

The variable that is changed on purpose.  Manipulated variable.

A testable prediction based on observations or research.

A list of clearly stated facts, data, or information to substantiate observations.

The sample group or standard for comparing experiment effects. Does not get the independent variable.

If the data shows a relationship between numerical data a _____ graph should be used.

Looking at the amounts of proportions of a substance or material.

The collection of observations gathered during an experiment.

A way of thinking about nature and technology.  A set of skills used to solve problems.

We use these to represent things that are too big/small/complicated to work with directly.

A hypothesis that has been found correct many times.

The factors that remains the same in an experiment - in all groups.

Looking at the characteristics of a material or substance - not numbers.

These are made while carrying out an experiment to gather accurate data.

A natural occurrence that has been observed without change over and over again.
