Unit 5: Role of Media

A sound bite is a story designed to expose wrongdoing.

In its role as watchdog, the media decides which issues need public attention.

Bias can affect what stories a media outlet decides are important.

My social studies teacher is the empirical (final) say on matters of current events.

Thanks to the media's influence, people don't need to pay attention to what is going on.

Whatever my parents, friends, and teachers tell me is good enough. I'll take their word for it.

Biased means favoring one view over another.

Most news sources are not for profit.

CNN or Fox is the best way to verify facts I have heard.

About half of all human beings are completely unbiased.

Everyone agrees the media should play the role of agenda setter.

If you watch television news, you will hear about all the issues that exist.

An issue can't get on the public agenda if nobody has heard about it.

In its role as gatekeeper, the media decides which stories to run.

The media only refers to television.

Data published from scientific sources is the best way to verify the truth about what I hear.

My teacher is never wrong. He can tell me who to vote for and what is right or wrong in society

If I watch the news every morning, I won't need any other source of information.
