Mod 1 - Intro to emerging tech

A term generally used to describe new technology

it can execute software instructions to perform wide variaty of tasks

collection of computers, servers, mainframes, network devices that are connected, allowing sharing of data

Manufacturing process is upgraded from hands on to automated with the use of machines

People moved from rural areas to big cities to work

Disciplines Contributing to HCI - Graphics, Technology, UI Management

It is the study of how people interact with computers and to what extent computers are or are not developed for human.

The user interacts with the computer over a software interface using the given input and output (I/O) hardware.

provides specific functions, including device to device interfacing, data communication, signal processing and more

Fueled by data as the new oil

Refers to continuing development of existing technology

advantages of HCI are complex deployment and operations and quality expesive setups

Computers, Phones and Internet

A cyber-physical system is a mechanism that is controlled or monitored by computer-based algorithms

Disciplines Contributing to HCI - Natural language processing, verbal instructions

Disciplines Contributing to HCI - Physical Hardware, buttons, Controls

Makes use of petrol and electricity as fuel for manufacturing

It refers to the communication and interaction between a human and a machine via a user interface.

The goal of HCI is to improve the interaction between users and computers by making computers more user-friendly

Steam Engines

Where did the Industrial Revolution start

Disciplines Contributing to HCI - Limitations, information processing, performance prediction, cooperative working

Robotics, IOT, Additive Manufacturing, and Autonomous Vehicles

Makes use of coal and steam powered machines for productions

Where did the Second Industrial Revolution start

Disciplines Contributing to HCI - Button placement for ease of access

Transition from mechanical and analog to digital electronics

A time when manufacturing of goods were moved from small shops and homes to large factories

The user interacts directly with hardware for the human input and output such as displays.

it can store random information such as contents of spreadsheet or database
