1
Part of the experimental stage in the program occurred when the experimenter:
wrong hypothesis not aligning with data& prediction
thought ice would melt on a piece of glass
wondered what kind of material will melt ice
observed ice melting on different materials
2
The scientific method is
not used by scientists who have the best laboratories
used only by small specialized university groups
found and explained on 3000 year old Egyptian temple walls
composed of five steps
3
Most hypothesis are usually:
long held beliefs
many years of experience
experiments that record accurate data
a vote by an educated group of people
4
A new hypothesis may be made when
an experiment show the original hypothesis to be false
the equipment breaks down and doesn't work
too many hours are being spent gathering equipment
there is not enough time to do the experiment
5
The hypothesis is
an educated guess
the last part of the experiment
a list of materials needed for an experiment
always right
6
Scientists believe scientific knowledge should be based on
experiments that record accurate data
long held beliefs
a vote by an educated group of people
many years of experience
7
A conclusion in the scientific method is based on what
a person expected would happen
was observed in the experiment
theories in the past had been proposed
a committee thought would be a reasonable answer
8
While following the steps of the scientific method, when are measurements taken?
half way through developing a theory
just before the hypothesis is made
right after a scientific law is composed
during the experimental stage
9
One of the benefits of the scientific method is that it can be used for
checking the results of rain in the future
learning about future stock prices
predicting the chances of rain in the future
finding the best places to go fishing
10
The scientific method
is not very useful today
is seldom used by people doing research
could be used by almost anyone
should only be used for the most complex problems
